
Rachel Gleeson is a resident artist under the 2025 National Endowment of The Arts (NEA) Our Town grant awarded to Habitable Spaces to help further the development of arts and culture in the city of Kingsbury.
Rachel’s Artist Statement
Rachel Gleeson is a landscape architect who has worked on projects of all scales and types – ranging from playgrounds to urban master plans. With a background in both art history and architecture, in addition to her work in landscape architecture, she is deeply interested in the evolution of the built environment and the role it plays in people’s daily lives.
A long-time Seattle resident, Rachel works with communities and clients across the country, enjoying every opportunity to learn more about the beauty of local landscapes and cultures. She is an Associate Principal at Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates (MVVA), where she collaborates with artists, engineers, and fellow designers in the planning and design of community spaces.
Rachel is a registered landscape architect in Washington State. She has served on the City of Seattle’s Design Commission, as well as the Seattle Public Art Advisory Committee. She holds a Master of Architecture and a Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of Virginia, and a Master of Arts in Art History from the University of Washington. She is currently the president-elect of the Washington Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects.
