Nature As A Muse, Miro Myung Justad

Miro Myung Justad
“I paint the natural world how I feel it; the trees, the hands, the stars–they reflect the journey of the interior self and its inseparable connection to mother nature. I use color, scale, and perspective to perpetuate the feeling that I am exploring while painting, whether it be a vast night sky, a towering blue tree above a tiny purple car, a sense of grief or longing in how the landscape bends, an ancestor with no face, a curving endless road.

My artistic process walks a line between intentionality and spontaneity as the original drafts for a piece make way to diversions and reactionary choices that occur with the final work. This creates an element of surprise for me as an artist. The work becomes a collaboration with the unknown, and this is what lights me up and keeps me returning to the canvas. I work with various mediums like acrylic, oil pastels, oil, charcoal, and color pencils on wood, canvas, gessoboard, matboard, and paper.”
