Apply For Residency

Short Term Residency & Internships

Our ideal intern is energetic and motivated to learn, has interest in pursuing a career in the arts or in farming, has interest in learning about homesteading, and has some skills in farming and/or carpentry but wants to learn more. This includes interest in running a small arts non-profit, gallery, homestead, or farm.
We offer internship opportunities for up to 1-3 months and we are willing to work with your schedule. Interns are expected to work 30 hours a week of contributed labor on Habitable Spaces projects. Contributed labor includes community art projects and help with other specialty projects*, but can also include: animal care and habitat maintenance, garden and forest care and maintenance, building care and maintenance, and Habitable Spaces-related community outreach projects. Any contributed labor must be cleared with staff first, residents will be responsible for their own time sheets. If you have any ideas on ways you think you could help out, let us know!

Interns will be provided with their own small cabin on the campus, pre-furnished with a queen size bed, desk, Wi-Fi, and access to the common house which holds the kitchen, pantry, washer and dryer, and lounge area. Interns will have access to all utilities. On site parking is free of charge, but in the case of events or gallery openings we may request for you to move your vehicle for priority parking. Our kitchen is regularly restocked with farm fresh veggies, meat, milk, and handmade cheeses from our farm and our neighboring farms which will be available to all residents on a first come-first serve basis. Interns will be given one Full Moon Dinner Ticket free of charge for the duration of their stay, and may also elect to assist with dinners as part of their contributed labor.
The Habitable Spaces campus sits on 28 acres with walking trails across the property. We do have a strict no pets allowed policy due to the nature of our farm, for the safety of our animals as well as yours.

*From June-November, we will be focusing on the construction of a ferrocement public art piece for the City of Kingsbury as well as ferrocement structures around the farm. Residents will learn ferrocement techniques and participate in building structures. If you have interests in learning the ropes of small scale farming, ferrocement structure building, or managing community building projects, please apply now for our current cycle!

If you have any specific accommodations which will need to be met, feel free contact us directly and we will do our best to meet your needs.
