Amira Hegazy is an artist and scholar whose work explores death, language, and how communication shapes meaning. She is the proprietor of A Mirror, a publishing and printing press focused on reflecting the world in an honest and optimistic light. She lives and works in Chicago, IL.

“I am interested in cycles of communication. The space (non)communication creates between knowing, meaning, and understanding provides an opportunity for change and learning. My work aims to rest in that moment where loss, hope, confusion, shame, and questions may settle. Through images of common things like nature, language, and everyday ephemera I try to highlight the natural cycles of death/life, despair/hope, rejection/love. My work leans on common modes of production like printing, writing, drawing, and bookmaking so that the work feels like part of the regular known world. I aim to produce work that is accessible, sustainable, and cares for the people, communities, and environments it is created within.”
