Katherine Da Costa
“My work unfolds from an exercise in attention: seeing before interpreting. I am drawn to the moment when the gaze slows, ceases to categorize, and simply resides with what presents itself. The practice emerges through walking, silence, and repeated gestures—ways of attuning perception and resisting the pace of the contemporary world.
It materializes in drawing, photography, and sculpture, exploring detail,
fragment, and interval as sites of intensity. The gesture is slow, and matter is not a neutral support but a body that responds, resists, and participates in the process. Drawing is not the representation of an object, but the prolongation of an encounter between the seeing body and the world that offers itself to the gaze. The pieces do not seek to narrate or explain; they exist as spaces of suspension. Emptiness, silence, and incompletion function as openings, inviting the viewer to inhabit the time of the work and experience a form of presence. My artistic practice is, ultimately, an ethical and sensorial gesture: a mode of attention that transforms both the act of seeing and the subject who sees.”
